The Father & Son

This one’s from my uncle Peter

A small touching story mainly for professionals…

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.

SON:   ”Daddy, may I ask you a question?”

DAD:   ”Yeah sure, what it is?” replied the man.
SON:   ”Daddy, how much do you make an hour?”
DAD:   ”That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a
thing?” the man said angrily.

SON:    ”I just want to know.. Please tell me, how much do you
make an hour?”
DAD:    ”If you must know, I make $20.00 an hour.”
SON:     ”Oh,” the little boy replied, with his head down.

SON:   ”Daddy, may I please borrow $10.00?”

The father was furious, “If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such this childish behaviour.”

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy
with that  $10.00  and he really didn’t ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door. “Are you asleep, son?” He asked. “No daddy, I’m awake,” replied the boy.

“I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier” said the man. “It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the  $10.00 you asked for.” The little boy sat straight up, smiling. “Oh, thank you daddy!” He yelled.

Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

“Why do you want more money if you already have some?” the father grumbled. “Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do,” the little boy replied. “Daddy, I have $20.00 now. Can I buy an hour of your time?

Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.” The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness. It’s just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts.

Do remember to share that $20.00 worth of your time with someone you love. If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family & friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.

And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family.

I AM a national best selling author!

In 4 days God Made Me Pick Underwear will be released nationwide.

“Studies show that 500,000 books a year are now being published. Of those, over 98% will sell less than 500 copies. If you’re just starting out, shooting for 500 is a good start. After that, I would say you’re moderately successful and ready to strive for the thousands.” http://terrycordingley.blogspot.com/2010/01/what-defines-bestseller-in-books.html

To this date I’ve already sold 200 books. So I’m not far from being part of the 2% that succeed.

My wrestling coach, Jose Campo, used to say “What the mind perceives, one can achieve.” I strongly believe that this book will be a national best seller. My belief comes from knowing that this book is God inspired. I can honestly say that that 2.5 years ago I had trouble putting a paragraph together. “Where I am weak, He is strong.”

I AM is such a powerful phrase. When Moses asked God what shall I say is your name. God replied, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, I AM has sent me to you.” (Exodus 3:14) When Jesus described Himself in Revelations He said, I AM the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last.” (Revelations 1:11)

If to be a Christian means to be Christ like. Then we must be Extraordinary like Christ. So I claim that I AM a child of the Utmost High! I AM forgiven by the blood of Jesus! I AM a national best selling author! I AM!

Church is boring

On my way to daily mass my son said to me, “Dad, I don’t want to go to church. It’s boring.” At first I wanted to respond to him harshly but how can I blame him, for 28 years of my life I believed church was boring too.

I replied to him, “Son, I understand. I used to think church was boring too. What I would like you to realize is I go to daily mass so that I can learn to be a better dad for you and your sister. I go to daily mass so that I can learn to be a better husband to your mom. Don’t you want me to be a better?”

He replied, “Yes, but it’s still boring.” I responded, “Son, there are many things you ask me to do that I don’t really want to do but I do them so I can spend time with you. Can you just look at it as time to be with me?”

He agreed but reiterated that church is still boring. I laughed at his honesty.

Why aren’t more people racing to church on a daily basis or at least once a week? Why are so many racing to happy hour or Las Vegas? Why do so many wait in line for Black Friday?

The answer is a lack of understanding. Many believe that the things of this world will satisfy them. They believe that getting drunk will help them forget their worries. They believe gambling will give them an opportunity to get ahead in life. They believe having the coolest gadgets will improve their quality of life.

It is only through full submission to Christ can one fully find satisfaction in the worries of life. You see I’m not going to sugar coat it. There are trials and tribulations to all not only to those who don’t believe. In fact in Mark 10:29-30 Jesus tells us “and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for my sake and for the Good News, will receive now in return a hundred times as many houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and property – along with persecution. And in the world to come that person will have eternal life.”

We are promised trials in our life but when we realize it is for our benefit than we embrace it instead of trying to cover it up with the things of this world. You see church is boring but so is football if you don’t understand it.
